Please read prior to trading with Meanwood Market

Should you have any further questions or queries that are not answered here, please contact Leah at meanwoodmarket@gmail.com.

  • Green Road Shopping Precinct, LS6 4JP.

The market is located at the shopping precinct on Green Road. It’s across the road opposite the Waitrose store.

  • If you have your own gazebo, you can arrive on site from 8.15am.

If you have been allocated a covered pitch you can arrive from 9.15am.

Please do not arrive any later that 9.45am to set up.

You should be ready to trade by 10.15am, no later.

If you are running late for any reason, please contact Leah as soon as possible on 07584078039. For safety reasons, we have the right to refuse you to set up and trade with us if it is later than 10.30am.

  • There are a number of parking bays available on Green Road, directly in front of the precinct. You can park here to unload your equipment, stock, etc. Once you have unloaded, please move your car to the car park at the back of the precinct or one of the streets nearby.

You can also park in the car park at the back and unload from there, as there is a passage directly from the car park into the market square at the precinct.

Please do not drive onto the precinct itself to unload, unless this has been agreed in advance.

Please plan your journey in advance, we are not responsible for ensuring an adequate parking space for you.

  • Gazebos
If you’re bringing your own gazebo it must be a strong pop up gazebo with gazebo weights for each leg. It’s very important your gazebo is weighted down properly to make sure they are safe and secure if there are gusts of wind. If your gazebo isn’t suitable or you come without weights, we have the right to refuse you to set up and trade with us.

    Tables
If you’re borrowing a table, please pick them up and return them to the storage area. You will be directed to this when you arrive.

Please be aware that you will need to bring your own table covering.

The tables are the 6 foot long folding type.

  • You are to remain selling at your stall until the end of the market both due to health and safety risks, and to maintain professionalism to our customers.

The earliest you can start to pack up is 20 minutes before the end of the market.

  • Rubbish
All rubbish must be taken away with you at the end of the day. There are no facilities on site to dispose of your waste.

    Smoking/Vaping
We appreciate that some of you smoke or vape, but ask that you do not smoke or vape at your stall or near anyone else’s stall.

    Toilets
There are toilets you are welcome to use in Wildcraft Cafe (at the precinct) and at Waitrose opposite the market. Please ensure you have someone to cover your stall at all times whilst away using the facilities.

  • If you need to cancel
Please get in touch as soon as you are aware that you are no longer able to trade at Meanwood Market on your allocated date. Providing that you give adequate notice of no later than 10 days before the event, you can either transfer your fee to another date or request a full refund.

Any cancellations made less than 10 days before the event will not be entitled to a refund.

This is clearly explained in the Terms & Conditions you agreed to when paying your fee.

    If we cancel
If Meanwood Market has to be cancelled due to weather, we will retain a £15 deposit, and you will receive the remaining £25 of your fee as a refund.

We appreciate that it’s highly inconvenient for all Small Businesses to lose out on a market day, however weather is something out of our control and unfortunately it does still cost us as a business when this occurs.

When these unfortunate cancellations arise, we still want to use our platform to support you and your business. Therefore your £15 deposit will go towards maintaining our social media page and online Trader Directory, where we will direct customers to shop online with you. It will also help to cover some of the administration costs.

Please do help by sharing the link on your social pages!

  • You will have a day trading at Meanwood’s busiest market, in a prime central location.

You will be offered a pitch based on your specified requirements and availability at each market. We are fortunate to have plenty of covered space available at the precinct for traders who do not own a gazebo, alongside numerous gazebo pitches.

You will be allocated either a gazebo pitch, a space in a shared gazebo with one other vendor or a space under the shelter. Each pitch provides a generous amount of space to accommodate (at a minimum) a 6ft table with plenty of storage space behind.

Alongside your pitch site, you will have extensive marketing and online presence via our social media pages and local outlets.

You will have a dedicated feature via our brand new website Trader Directory that will prompt people to follow your social media page and shop with you online.

Top-tips for trading with Meanwood Market..

  • Successes beyond sales

Although important, a successful market isn’t just about sales on market day. Make sure you’re celebrating social media follows, newsletter sign-ups, custom commissions, and valuable customer feedback. These connections often lead to future opportunities and bigger sales over time. Keep your energy high, your network growing, and remember: today’s hello could be tomorrow’s biggest order!

  • Example: Tru Soap Co

    Stall/Visual Merchandising

A visually inspiring stall invites customers in. Use height, props, and creative displays to help people imagine your products in their homes or lives. Full, well-curated displays sell better — take inspiration from your favourite shops and keep your setup refreshed and exciting throughout the day. This will evoke the quality of your products to our customers!

  • Bundles & Gifting

Make shopping easy and irresistible by bundling products or offering gift-ready options. Simple gift wrap, cards, or “buy more, save more” deals create quick, thoughtful purchases for customers — and boost your sales. It’s all about adding value and making your stall the most convenient choice!

  • Pricing

Offer a range of price points so everyone can shop with you - and make they’re visible! If a customer buys your smallest item, it's still a huge compliment — they couldn’t leave without something! Often, smaller purchases build customer loyalty and lead to larger, future sales. Accessibility is key to long-term success! Although it’s always wise to have a “kitty” if customers want to buy with cash, but majority of customers will want to pay on card so it’s best to be on hand to take card payments!

  • Market Day Etiquette

Your best sales tool is you! Greet customers warmly, always be visible and stand when/if you can, and engage with genuine smiles. Use downtime smartly for creating content, but remember: if you look busy on your phone, customers may feel unwelcome. Stay present, positive, and make your stall an open invitation to chat always!

  • Preparing for All Weather

Markets happen rain or shine - unless we have extreme weather! Dress in layers to adjust easily as the temperature changes. In colder months, hand and foot warmers, sturdy footwear, and a flask of something hot are lifesavers. Comfort keeps you energised — and happier traders make for happier customers!
